Become a Volunteer Firefighter

Interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter with the St. Andrews Fire Department?

We are always looking for dedicated people interested in joining our organization.

 

How to join:

To join you MUST be sixteen years of age and MUST have a valid drivers license. You must be physically fit and have no serious medical history. Firefighting is extremely strenuous and demanding, therefore any known medical conditions must be disclosed at the time of submitting an application.

 

Benefits of joining:

There are several benefits to becoming a member of our Fire Department. There is a great sense of comrodary within the Station and there is a great feeling knowing that you are helping others in our community that are in a time of need.

 

How to become a volunteer:

To become a firefighter with the St. Andrews Fire Department, you must drop by the Station and pick up an application form and recruitment package. You are required to have a police background check run on you, a medical, and will be required to have an interview with the Fire Chief of the Department. If you have any questions, please contact us and we would be happy to answer any questions that you may have.

 

Training:

The Provincial standard for today’s firefighter is Level I competancy. Training will be provided when a course can be scheduled, and successful completion is a must. The course is approximately 200 hours, or around four months of class time during the evenings and some weekends. Your dedication to this training is the first step of becoming part of a great team.
